Most couples photos are two people being told to laugh at nothing.

You've seen them: the forced laugh, the forehead touch, the stiff walk toward nobody. It looks like a stock photo because it's an impression of a couple, not the couple.

A good couples photoshoot looks like the two of you on a good day. No script, no marching orders every ten seconds, just a place you like and enough time for you to stop thinking about the camera. I'm a couples photographer who would rather catch you mid-sentence than mid-pose.

I'm based in Colorado Springs and I work across the Mountain West. A session can be an engagement-style shoot, an anniversary or just a reason to get photos of the two of you. If you're covering travel, I'll go anywhere in the world.

An hour with the two of you is plenty, if we plan it.

We talk first. What do you want captured, how do you want it captured, and what are the photos for? Your own walls, a save-the-date, a gift for the grandparents, or just proof that you looked good once?

Then we choose the place, the time of day and the outfits together. An overlook at sunset and a balloon festival at sunrise make very different photos, and you pick the one that fits the two of you.

On the day, the session runs about 60 to 90 minutes. The best frames show up a few minutes after you loosen up, and my job is to still be paying attention when they do.

Most of my time goes into editing, not the shoot. You get 25 finished photos two to three weeks after the session.

Two people and a very large view.

Choose a place you'd actually go on a date.

My couples photography runs from mountain overlooks and red rock ridges to open desert, balloon festivals and quiet trails. I'm based in Colorado Springs and I work across the Mountain West, and if you're covering travel, I'll go anywhere. The right location depends on the season, how far you want to walk and what the two of you love. We settle that in the planning conversation.

The best frames show up after you stop trying.

Questions

Fair questions, short answers.

What does a couples session cost?

A couples session of about 60 to 90 minutes is $1,650 with a model release and $1,900 without one. The full price list is on the pricing page.

Do you photograph engagements and anniversaries?

Yes. An engagement-style session or an anniversary shoot works the same way as any couples session, with the same planning conversation first.

What should we wear?

We decide together once we know what the photos are for and where we're shooting. Bring a few options and I'll help you narrow them down.

How many photos do we get, and how soon?

A couples session comes with 25 edited photos, delivered two to three weeks after the session.

What can we use the photos for?

Personal use, social media and prints. Commercial use isn't included.
