Rex Jones Portraits

Most portraits look like a passport photo that got a promotion.

I've photographed people since 2008. I've written for Fstoppers, a site photographers read, since 2016, so I think a lot about what makes a photo work. More about me.

My goal is a portrait where you recognize yourself, standing somewhere that makes sense for you. Local to Colorado Springs? See my portrait photographer page.

Questions

Questions before you book

Before you book

Where are you based, and where do you shoot?

I'm a portrait photographer in Colorado Springs, and I work across Colorado and Utah. I travel farther too, and you cover the travel cost. The pricing page has the details.

How much does a session cost?

I list prices because hiding them is a strange way to start a relationship. Solo sessions start at $650 and couples sessions at $1,650. Every price, including elopements, is on the pricing page.

What's a model release, and why does it change the price?

It's a form that lets me show your edited photos publicly. Signing one when you book takes $250 off. It covers all your edited photos, and once you sign you can't undo it. The pricing page has the full terms.

How do I book?

Send a note through the contact page with whatever you have so far. A rough idea is plenty. I reply within two business days, and we talk before anything else happens.

The session

I'm awkward in front of a camera. Is that a problem?

It's the most common thing people tell me, and it isn't a problem. The best frame usually arrives a few minutes after you loosen up. My job is to still be paying attention when it does.

Do you photograph boudoir?

Yes, in a studio, outdoors, or at home and in rentals. Each has its own page with photos so you can see the difference.

After the shoot

What can I use the photos for?

Your walls, your socials and prints. If you want them for a business, a brand or an ad, tell me up front so we can talk about it.

Do you work with brands and businesses?

Yes. I shoot for fitness and outdoor brands, coaches and athletes. Commercial work is priced per job. Tell me where the photos will run and what they need to do, and I'll send a price.

New work, now and then. No more than one email a month.
