Ogden, Utah
Ogden, Utah photographer
Portraits and couples around Ogden's historic downtown, Pineview Reservoir and the Weber River, from a photographer who plans the trip in advance.

Ogden has a railroad-era main street and a mountain reservoir eight miles away. It deserves more than a drive-through.
Getting there
Ten hours northwest, and I'd make it a two-day trip.
It's close enough to Salt Lake City that I'd plan the two together if you're choosing between them.
If you want the reservoir, ask about dates early: the Forest Service lists a managed season.
Where we would shoot
Three places, and what to check first.
Historic 25th Street
Ogden City
A railroad-era main street with a clock-towered station at the end of it, built in 1889.
Photo rules here: Ogden requires a film permit application for any project on city property, or on state road property within city limits.

Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest
About eight miles east of Ogden at 5,000 feet, in the center of Ogden Valley. The Forest Service describes the shoreline as generally flat and grassy, with a variety of hardwood trees. That's a gentle backdrop for a couples session.
Photo rules here: The Forest Service lists a construction closure through 2026 and a managed season that runs about May 1 to September 20, with developed sites open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

An 84-acre tract near the Weber River with a pond and picnic areas.

Light
The mountains delay the morning, not the evening.
Ogden sits right against the Wasatch front, which rises just to the east. Direct sun reaches the valley later in the morning than the table suggests. Sunsets are the easy part: the sky to the west is open toward the Great Salt Lake.
Summers are hot, so book sunrise or evening.

Questions
Fair questions about Ogden.
Do I need a permit on Historic 25th Street?
Ogden requires a film permit application for any project on city property.
Is Pineview Reservoir open year-round?
Not all of it. The Forest Service lists a managed season that generally runs from about May 1 to September 20, plus a construction closure through 2026.
Should I book Ogden or Salt Lake City?
Ogden if you want a historic main street and a reservoir, Salt Lake City if you want a lake island or a mountain canyon. They're close enough to cover on one trip.
